Obituary of Nellie Cyr
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen “Nellie” Dennistoune Cyr, of Foxbrook Road, Westville, on August 19, 2019 after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of the late Ruth (Mason) Douthwright Gammon and Cecil Douthwright.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an employee of the Alma and Heather Hotel before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Newfoundland.
She is survived by daughters, Sandra Cyr, Westville; Paula Cyr (Ernie Duff), Guysborough Co.; grandchildren, Ashley Chennell (Jason), Westville, Kayla Cyr (Corey Lynch), Halifax; Alexander, Westville; Aaron Duff (Jessica), Enfield; Matthew Duff, Granton; great grandchildren, Reed Chennell, Westville, Isabelle Duff, Westville and Dallas Duff, Enfield; sister, Clara McCormick (Reid), NB; Niece, Nancy McCormick Alward, NB, and nephews, Mark McCormick, John and Allan Bezanson, Pictou Co.
She was predeceased by loving companion William “Sonny” Cyr; sister Emily Bezanson and brother-in-law Henry Bezanson; step-father James Gammon.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Rivera and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their kindness.
Her family will receive visitors on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Father Bernie MacAdam officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
