October 13, 1930 – August 16, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Michael John Mahar announce his passing on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 88 years.
Pre-deceased by his wife Neila (Caines), parents Michael (Sr) and Catherine (Hynes) Mahar, siblings Alice Evangeline (Luke), Agnes (John), William Christopher, Patrick (1st), Patrick (2nd), Mary Anne, Peter, Isabelle (Mark), Josephine, Christopher Joseph (Mary Elizabeth), Catherine, and grandson Christopher Steven Jones.
Survived by his sons Ben (Selina), Alonzo (Anita), Leon (Georgina), Matthias (Eileen), Ivan (Mabel), Mike (Cynthia), daughters’ Joyce (Wilb), Brenda (Steve), Mary (Alvin), Betty (Paco) and brother-in-law Jacob Toope, grandchildren Darcy, Kerry, Melissa, Leslie, Tara, Steve, Ayme, Joey, Jullian, Tobias, Darryl, Anton, Kristine, Tracy, Stephanie, Jeremy, Jorden, Kelly, Andy, Kimberly, Francisco, Jose, Rosanna, Carmen, and Luis, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. Mike was also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, extended families and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge the love and support that Mike received during his time at the Northern Retirement Home in Port Sanders. A special thank you to Peggy and Kim for all that they have done for our father. The family would like to also express their gratitude for the care their father received during his time at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook.
Family meant the world to Mike and he was so proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. As most will know, Mike was a very hard worker and had a great sense of humor. He especially loved hunting, fishing, berry picking, gardening, and of course crafting. He thoroughly enjoyed helping others and was very a generous person and loved to share.
Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port au Choix on Sunday & Monday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with a family service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. from Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Bird Cove, family service will also take place at this time. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church with Father O’Quinn officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery.
