Marjorie Winnifred “Marwin” McLeod (nee Long) passed away on July 24, 2019, after a life lived with laughter and convictions; much singing, baking, and sewing; and many animated discussions about current events.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Brown (Keith) and Deanna McLeod; son-in-law, Jack Knall; grandchildren, Liesel Davidson (Scott), Megan Knall, Jordan Brown (Julia), Daniel Brown, and Alex Gray; great-grandchild, Henley Brown; siblings, Florence “Bonnie” Millions and Willard Long; and cousin, Sandra Munn. Marj was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Marjorie Knall on May 3, 2019; husband of 66 years, Bob McLeod, on May 20, 2019; parents, C.W. and Marjory (nee Martin) Long; and siblings, Ruth, Alan, and Norman.
Marj grew up on a farm near Red Deer until the family moved to Calgary when she was 11. At school, she excelled in her studies, badminton, and musical drama. She received her RN diploma from Calgary General Hospital in 1952. Her intelligence and warm, compassionate nature made Marj an excellent nurse & she loved her chosen profession. While raising their 3 daughters, Marj worked part-time, then was a homemaker for ten years while always a very active volunteer in church life, politics & the community. Marj was a loyal Albertan & Canadian, and an avid Oilers & Eskies fan, as well as a symphony- and theatre-goer; she loved roses, the mountains & world travel; and she adored her grandchildren. She never lost the “farm girl” inside her and her love of dogs & horses. Everything Marj did was with passion & purpose, forging many lifelong friendships as she worked & played to make the world a better place.
Enormous thanks to the staff at Eaux Claire Extendicare, Unit 2400, where Marj lived since 2014—their kind & supportive professionalism was so appreciated by Bob, a daily visitor, and by our family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace United Church, 6215 – 104 Ave, Edmonton, on August 15, 2019, at 2 pm.
