CURTO, Lorenzo
Peacefully, while surrounded by his loving family, Lorenzo passed away at
the age of 84, on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Juravinski Hospital. He will be
dearly missed by his beloved wife Giuseppina (Vignanello) to whom he
was faithfully married for 59 years. He leaves behind his children Adelina and
Gary VanNorden, Toni and Vince DiRisio, Giuseppe and Angela Curto, and
Franca and Nereo Amaral. Predeceasedby his son-in-law Giovanni DiPaolo.
Proud nonno to Christopher (Deanna), Jacqueline, Nicholas, Ryan, Chelsea,
Giuliana, Marina, Sophia, Joseph, and Anthony. Proud bisnonno to Sebastian.
Predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Adelina Curto as well as by his
in-laws Francesco and Antonia Vignanello. Brother to Maria and the late
Charlie Picone, Luisa and Carmelo Vignanello, the late Charles Curto (Lina
Mamone), Josie and Mike Carbone, and Frank and Connie Curto. Brother-inlaw
to the late Salvatore and the late Maria Vignanello, the late Giuseppe
and Serafina Vignanello, and the late Eduardo Vignanello. Dearly missed by
many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives in Canada, Belgium and Italy.
Lorenzo was born in Racalmuto and immigrated to Canada in 1951 at the
age of 16. In 1960, he was introduced to the love of his life, Giuseppina,
whom he married on August 13th of the same year. They began their life
together and devoted themselves to raising their beautiful family. Lorenzo
derived his greatest joy through spending his time with his grandchildren
and his newly arrived great-grandchild. He was a retired employee of Harris
Rebar, where he dedicated himself for 31 tireless years. He was one of the
original founding committee members of Comunita Racalmutese Maria SS.
del Monte of Hamilton, and an original founding member of the Trinacria
Club. He was also a proud member of the Fratellanza Racalmutese Club,
where he enjoyed spending time with his friends.
The family would like to thank Lorenzo’s family physician Dr. Meghan Davis,
nurse Victoria and the staff of Crown Point Family Health Centre, along with
his cardiologist Dr. Stallwood. A special thank you to Dr. Conen, and the
staff of CICU at the Juravinski Hospital, for all of their care, support, and
compassion. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43
Barton Street East (near James) on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and on Thursday
from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers on Thursday (time to be
announced). A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 16,
2019 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Site. Entombment
to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
