On Wednesday, June 26th, 2019, Lisette passed away peacefully at the age of 90.
Lisette was born in 1929 to Case and Katerina Post in Amsterdam, Netherlands. As a young woman, she trained to be a seamstress and worked for several years in Amsterdam. In 1951, she married Dirk Hendrick Koning. They immigrated to Canada in 1954, where they built a beautiful home together and raised two sons, Erwin and Onno, and three daughters, Marie Lou, Benita and Jackie.
Lisette loved to garden and spent many happy hours puttering about her plants and enjoying the sunshine on her patio. She was an avid hobbyist, using her sewing and knitting skills to make many beautiful items. While wintering in Arizona with Dirk she made many exquisite ceramic dolls. Her dolls were so realistic we often referred to them as “Mom’s creepy dolls”! She later became interested in miniatures and, along with her son Erwin and his wife Donna, crafted numerous beautiful room boxes together.
In 1998, Lisette joined the Heart and Stoke Walking Club, where she made many close and lifelong friends. Although Lisette loved to be at home, she also enjoyed travelling and made frequent trips to visit family and friends abroad. Her family often traveled to see her as well. We spent many hours drinking tea with her and admiring the brightly coloured flowers planted in front of the window. We will all miss our afternoon teas with Mom the most.
Lisette is preceded in death by her parents (Case and Katerina) and by her husband Dirk. She is survived by five children, Erwin Koning (Donna), Onno Koning (Barbara Beaton), Marie Lou Smith (Lindsay), Benita Koning (Sierd Eriks) and Jackie Gustafson (Doug), her brother Harry Post, a nephew Norman and his son Leon, as well as seven grandchildren, (Matthew, Bryant, Daniel, Dennis, Nicole, Jennifer and Michael), and two great grandchildren, (Scarlett and Paul).
“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in – what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.”
-Victor Hugo
While the loss of you is lessened by a life well lived with love and laughter, we will always carry your memory in our hearts and miss you dearly. And when we stop to look at the flowers, we will think fondly of you as we study each one of them.
April 30 1929 ~ June 26 2019 (age 90)
