Life Legacy
MERRETT, John Joseph ‘Jack’ – Died on Wednesday August 28, 2019, after a long, fulfilled and happy life. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on January 28, 1929, Jack had a 41 year career with Gerber Canada. He held a commercial pilot’s license and was a long-time member and instructor at the St. Catharines Flying Club and Past Chairman of The Niagara District Airport Commission. Flying was his second love after his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Noreen Mousseau, and their children Kelly Merrett and her sons, Matthieu and Thomas of France, Jim (Norma Brown) of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, WA, and their daughters Allison (Prashant) and Laura Merrett of Seattle, WA, Nancy Borne (Brent) of Niagara Falls, son Jesse (Kate) of CFB Borden and Tim (Anna Coull) and their children, Graham and Sarah of Cary, NC. Survived also by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Gail Mousseau and their children, Jennifer, David and Dan (Shelly) of Niagara Falls, niece Patricia Mowery (Dave of Perrysville, MD. Predeceased by his parents, his brother Harry and sister Catharine. Survived by relatives in England, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada. Jack and Noreen enjoyed 26 winters at their Florida condo, where they greeted friends and family and Jack played golf. As per Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to call at PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main Street, visiting Friday 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Church at 11 am with the Rite of Committal at Fairview Cemetery. In honour of Jack’s memory, donations may be made to Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital.
