Jessie Stirling McCormick – 89, Beaver
Brook, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on
Friday evening, August 16, 2019, at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro. Born in Burnton Hill, Ayrshire, Scotland, she was a
daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Haddow)
Blackwood.
Jessie came to Canada with her family in 1964 and along with
her husband, Bill, they were farmers. She was a member of Old Barns
United Church where she was a member of the UCW and Old Barns
Progressive Club; she was also a member of Sorority. In earlier years,
she very much enjoyed gardening and over the years she has knitted
various items for local hospitals, overseas outreach ministries and
for family. Above all, Jessie loved her family dearly and supported
them in all of their endeavors; she was a faithful friend and will be
greatly missed.
Jessie is survived by her son, Harry (Darlene), Beaver Brook;
daughters, Nancy (Glen) McKinnon, Beaver Brook; Morag (Tom) Bailey,
Truro; Wilma Armsworthy, Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren, Drew,
Crystal, Holly, Billy, Nicholas, Matthew, Jesse; great grandchildren,
Brooke, Madison, Harrison, Mason, Ella, Katie, Sally, Olivia;
great-great granddaughter, Isabelle; sister, Nan (Drew) Muir,
Scotland; sister-in-law, Jean Blackwood, Scotland; many nieces and
nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Bill; brothers, Andrew (Mary) Blackwood, William
Blackwood.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Jessie’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2019.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at
Old Barns United Church, 2603 Highway 236, Old Barns, Student Minister
Calvin Burt officiating. Interment in Old Barns Cemetery. Reception
will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. If so desired,
donations in Jessie’s memory to a charity of choice are
