It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Anne Corkum, 84, of Dayspring, announces her peacefully passing on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Dayspring, Jean was the daughter of the late Phinnie and Emma (Naugler) Snyder.
In her earlier years, Jean started her working career at the Old Stedman’s Store and at a Bank in Bridgewater and then went to work at Arthur’s Selig General Store in Dayspring and then retired after a number of years at Maxwell’s Shore Store in the Bridgewater Mall.
Active within her community she was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Upper LaHave where she served on the Altar Guild, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Dayspring and District Fire Department, a member of the Woodbine Rebekah Lodge # 53, Upper LaHave and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24, Bridgewater.
In her spare time she volunteered at the gift shop at the South Shore Regional Hospital and at the Riverview Enhanced Home in Dayspring, and could always be found knitting, enjoying her daily lexicon, and spending quality time with her grandchildren and her much loved cat, Mittens.
Her love of life, family, friends and the community at large were so important to her. Jean’s quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by those who knew and loved her. She was a golden thread of love spun invisibly through all our hearts and lives.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Howie) Rafuse, Hebb’s Cross; sons, Barry (Paulette) Corkum, Rhodes Corner, Kirk, Oakhill; grandchildren, Nicholas (Elizabeth), Stephen, Jessica (Dylan), Anna, Kristi and Matthew and great grandson, Tyson, sister, Karen (David) Wilkie, Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, an infant daughter, Catherine; sisters, Mary Schmeisser, Doris Hayward, Kathleen Mailman, Delia Fraser, Thelma Reid and brothers, George, Arnold, Teddy and Harold.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, where funeral service will be held, Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Paul Jensen, officiating. Interment will be in the Dayspring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital, Riverview Enhanced Care or to a charity of your choice.
