Irene Anastasia Tomes – age 102, passed away peacefully on
Friday, August 16, 2019 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. She was born in
Halifax on July 13, 1917 and was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion.
Mom was the youngest daughter of the late John Thomas Ryan and Mary
Ann (Hatter) Ryan. She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine
“Lou” (Jack) Balsor, Kentville; dear
daughter-in-law, Peggy Tomes; brother-in-law, Ronald Tomes;
granddaughters, Susan (Tony) Balsor-Boudreau and Linda (Lilli) Balsor;
grandsons, David and William Tomes; great grandson, Shawn Boudreau;
nephews, John (Janet) Wilkie and Paul (Karen) Nickerson; niece, Audrey
Taylor and a special family friend, Brian Donovan. She was predeceased
by her husband, George; son, Ryan; sisters, Maria Nickerson, Marion
Wilkie and Florence Taylor; brother, Wilfred; niece, Joan Stubbs.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral
service, by request. A private family graveside service will be held
at a later date in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville
