Ilmi Bird

BIRD, Ilmi Sanelma (nee Varra) – Born August 9th, 1924 passed away August 16th, 2019 a week after her 95th birthday. Ilmi was predeceased by her husband Norman Frank Bird.
Ilmi was born and lived her entire life in Kirkland Lake. She had many lifelong childhood friends, but was bothered by the fact she out lived them all. Her parents family, which was quite large, and with the exception of one aunt, all lived in Finland. Ilmi outlived her friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by three sons Ron, Glen (Ranju) and caregiver Blaine as well as one daughter Marilyn (Bruce). She is also survived by four grandchildren Ryan, Ashlyn, Jarret and Kyla as well as five great grandchildren Jenna, Charlotte, Jakob, Jaiden and Axsel.
Ilmi was employed by the Dept. of Social and Family Services for most of her working career. Upon her retirement she volunteered many hours and was recognized by the Ontario government for her dedication and commitment.
Ilmi lived a full and active life until her stroke in 2017 which slowed her down and necessitated that she moved to Extendicare, where she sincerely appreciated the attention and affection of the staff.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or visitation. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ilmi Bird..
