Harold Allen Klassen
Dad passed away peacefully on Aug 27, 2019 at the Carman Memorial Hospital. Born on Dec 31, 1932. Dad was raised on the family farm west of Rosenfeld, MB. He left at an early age to work construction jobs that ranged from local to the Arctic Circle.
Dad is survived by our Mother Jean, his loving and caring wife of 57 years, and by his children Donald (Gloria), Tracey (Rene), Jeff (Trish), Darren (Michele) (Goose), his grandchildren Jessica (Gary), Justin (Kenna), Kelli, Tyler and great grandchildren Grayson and Lachlan, Left to mourn Dad’s passing are sisters Mary, Maureen (Jeff), brothers Art (Mary), Ken (Joleen). He is predeceased by his parents John and Sarah, brothers Ed, and Bill, and sister Elma.
Dad’s work in construction running equipment (cranes, dozers, and backhoes) took he and the family to many different locations across Manitoba. He also spent time working for the Dept of labour in the safety department. As well as he and Mom started their own construction company (Fairmont Excavators) doing bridge building, culvert installation, and landscaping. Dad settled in with Manitoba Hydro in 1974 working in various capacities within labour relations on Hydro Electric Dams and flood claims.
Dad was always involved within whatever community we were residing. Whether Dad was organizing curling bonspiels, managing senior hockey, or taking on the role of commissioner and president of Thompson Minor Hockey he always managed to make a lot of very close and lifelong friendships, as well as the odd enemy that he would proudly proclaim from time to time.
Retiring to the town of Carman in 1994 and renewing old acquaintances from years past Dad and Mom enjoyed spending time working in the yard and visiting on the back deck or at the legion with family and friends.
Dad you were always there when needed, your wisdom and guidance will be missed but never forgotten.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Harold Allen Klassen..
