Gordon passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2019 at the young age of 67.
Born on December 16, 1951 in Comox, Gordon was a long time resident of Denman Island where he worked for the Department of Highways for many years as a grader operator and later a foreman. He moved to Port Alberni in 2015.
Always active, Gordon loved fishing, gardening, and walks with his family and dogs – Helliwell Park on Hornby Island and Whaling Station Bay were among his favourite spots to venture. For many years he coached both the woman’s and childrens’ baseball teams on Denman and was an avid Scouter giving him the opportunity to impact the lives of many youngsters in the community. He was also well known for his sensational roses and loved the tunes of Elvis.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Cpt. Harold R Piket and Patricia Irene Piercy and stepfather, Wes Piercy. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; son, Dwayne (Marlaina) Piket; daughter, Barbara (John) Ilett; stepchildren, Kelly Maron and Jesse Telep; grandchildren, Cassandra, Rebecca, James, Colin, Arya, Anita, Hank, Jade and Lyla; his uncle Bill Walton; brothers and sisters, Kathleen (Art) Grieder, Karen (Dan) Annand, Tom (Sonia) Piket, Gina (Channing) Swatez, Annette (Geoff) Ballantyne, Gary Piercy ; and loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
An Open House and informal tea will be held in the Lounge at the Denman Island Activity Center, 1111 Northwest Road on Saturday, September 7 from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Gordon’s family invite friends to drop in and share their memories of Gordon. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Gordon’s memory may do so by making a donation in his name to a charity of your choice.
