Freeland’s Obituary
CROWELL, Freeland Eldon – 97, Bear Point and recently of Veteran’s Place, Yarmouth passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 14, 2019. He was just a few weeks short of his 98th birthday. Born September 3, 1921 in Bear Point, he was the son of Freeland Sr. and Jennie (Shand) Crowell. He married Jean Stewart of Clam Point in 1948 and they celebrated 69 years of marriage. Freeland loved his family, spending time at his camp on the banks of the Clyde River and Friday evening outings at local restaurants until his health failed. Except for the year he spent at Veteran’s Place and the time he was away during WWII, he lived his entire life in Bear Point. Freeland enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1941 and served in The Royal Canadian Army Service Corp attached to the 5th Medium Regiment. He served in England, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany during his time in the Army. He was discharged in 1945. Freeland owned and operated a little country store and post office serving the community of Bear Point. He was a faithful member of the Bear Point Advent Christian Church. Surviving are his son Brian (Gerilyn), daughter Wanda (Ken); his grandchildren Corey (Sarah), Erin (Neil), Jason, and Kristen (Michael); great grandchildren Dustin, Andrew, Katelyn, Dakota, Angelina, Jayden, Christopher and Kenzie and a great-great grandson Grayson. Freeland is also survived by siblings Don (Ruth) and Honey (Carl): brother – in-law, Larry; sisters-in-law, Sylvia, Barbara and Vernona. Besides his parents, Freeland was predeceased by siblings Roswell, Andrew, Barbara, Doral and Carol. Special thanks to Dr. d’Eon, Dr. Yee and the entire staff and volunteers of Veteran’s Place who made his last days comfortable. There will be a visitation Wednesday, August.21, from 7-9PM at H.M.Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service will be 2PM Thursday, August 22 at H.M Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Alvin McComiskey and Pastor Luuk Geerligs officiating. It has been requested there be family flowers only; in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Advent Christian Church, Bear Point, Veteran’s Place Van Fund, Yarmouth or a charity of choice.
