Obituary for
Elizabeth “Liz” Anne Cooke (Murphy)
Elizabeth Anne Cooke (Murphy), age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 10th in Debert Court. Liz was born on October 10, 1948 in St. John’s Newfoundland to Adrian Murphy and the late Bernadine Murphy (Phillips).
She spent her childhood years in Debert before moving to Lornevale to raise her family.
Liz was blessed to have found the love of her life in husband, Ralph, with whom she spent 54 years creating a beautiful love story. Her greatest pride was her family. She taught her four girls what it was to love without reservation and how to live each moment with joy, taking nothing for granted.
When at home she could often be found in her favourite rubber boots, gardening gloves or fishing rod in hand. She loved hats of every type, colour and shape. She treasured her Frenchys visits with Tina, her berry picking with Phyllis and her road trips with Ralph.
Liz had a smile that lit up a room and a grin that said, “I am up to mischief.” She was always up for anything that involved laughter and never lost her sense of humour.
Liz is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ralph; her daughters, Theresa Cooke, Nancy MacKenzie (Phillip), Helen O’Brien (Andrew); beloved grandchildren, Martina, Adam, Megan, Jordan, Kalie, Connor, Sawyer, Ian, Sean and Faith as well as many great grandchildren.
She will be lovingly remembered by her father, Adrian; her sisters, Tina, Suzanne, Bernadine, Cathy and Michelle; her brothers, Adrian, David, Tommy and Eugene; sister-in-law, Phyllis and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Debra Olmstead; her mother Bernadine Murphy, her brother, Daniel Murphy; her mother-in-law, Anna Cooke as well as her father-in-law, Perley Cooke.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the loving care that both Liz and Ralph received during the three years when Liz lived at Debert Court and in particular, her last precious days.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15th from 1 pm until time of Memorial Service at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Keith Selwyn Smith, DLM officiating. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date in Folly Mountain Cemetery.
