Obituary of Eleanor Glen Beckett
Surrounded by her family, Eleanor Glen Beckett peacefully passed away on July 27th, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH). Born July 31st, 1928 in Olinville, New Brunswick to William and Lillian (Barnett) Braydon, Eleanor was the only daughter in a family of five children. She was loved dearly by her son Donnie (Carrie), grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was lovingly known as ‘Nan’ to the family.
In her early years, Eleanor cooked for the men in lumber camps and was a devoted daughter that took care of her aging mother and twin brothers. She worked tirelessly for many years alongside her husband doing administrative work for the Donald E. Beckett Ltd. lumber mill. A true matriarch, she never complained about any ailments, and was always devoted to looking after those she loved, especially her son.
Eleanor loved cooking, baking, spending winters trailering in Florida and summers at the Harding’s Point campground and travelling with her husband. In more recent years, you could find her sitting in her chair watching daily game shows, talking on the phone with her dear friends or knitting afghan blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eleanor is survived by her only son Donnie Beckett (Carrie), her grandchildren Jessica Chessie (Randy), Jaclynn Beckett (Ian Drijber), and Jeremy Beckett (Jocelyn). She is also survived by her five darling great-granddaughters Arielle, Jemma, Jaelynn, Mikaela and Carly, her brother Roy (Shirley) Braydon, her sister-in-laws Eleanor Braydon and Ruby Laird and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Donald Beckett, recently her granddaughter Mandi Beckett, her brothers Bob, John and Norman Braydon, and her dear sister-in-law Evelyn Anderson (Tom).
We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the various homecare workers and those involved in the extramural team that allowed Nan to stay at home for the duration of her advanced years. Thank you to the 5CS Family Medicine and 3BN Palliative Care floors at SJRH for giving exceptional care to Nan during her last days. We would also like to extend a special thank you Mary Elderkin who has been with us for over twelve years and has become like family to us, also to Jocelyn Beckett who has helped Nan to bed every night for the past three years. Nan loved you.
Eleanor is resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) where visitation will be held on Tuesday July 30th, 2019 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
