Doreen Leighton (Latham)
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Doreen Leighton (nee Latham), beloved Mum, Nan, and Great-Nan, on Saturday 17th August, 2019 at the age of 90 years in St. Albert, Alberta.
Doreen was born in Edlington, South Yorkshire, England on August 1st, 1929 to Rene and John Latham. Doreen married her beloved Valere Leighton in 1951, and in 1957 Doreen, Val and daughter, Susan immigrated to Canada. Together with their four daughters they built a happy life.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Susan, Carol (Bruce) and Jane; her grandchildren, Nicky (Mark), Michael (Niki), Derek, Caleigh, Kelsey (Jesse), and Kevin (Tiffany); her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Joshua, Matthew and Zachary; her honorary grandchildren, Ruth (Christian), Beckham, Kate, and Gwen; and her dear friend, Clare Young. She was predeceased by her husband, Val; her daughter, Shanny; and great-granddaughter, Rebecca.
Nan will be remembered for the way she loved her family, her witty sense of humour, her love of tea, and her ability to rule the world from an armchair.
The family would like to extend their profound gratitude for the exceptional care provided for her by Dr. Elisa Mori-Torres, and the entire care staff at Citadel Mews West.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anglican Parish of Christ Church, 12116 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made in Doreen’s name to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, c/o the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, 10240 Kingsway Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 3V9.
