CATHERINE RESCHNY (NEE LEIBEL)
In gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Cathy Reschny sadly inform you of her passing on August 19, 2019. Cathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who loved deeply and connected powerfully with those she held dear. She was fiercely proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, and was always their loudest cheerleader in any endeavor they chose to pursue. She unrelentingly encouraged our passions, nurtured our dreams and supported us through our failures. Family was very important to Cathy. She generously opened her home and heart to anyone who needed or was craving the love and support of a close-knit family. The legacy of her inclusiveness is a large community of people who hold a special place in the inner circle of our family. Cathy was also a respected and well-loved educator who taught in at least a dozen Catholic schools in Saskatoon. She had a gift for identifying the special talents of her students and did whatever she could to nurture that potential to its highest level. We will fondly remember her for the carefree summers at Etter’s Beach, her lovely flower gardens, singing Christmas carols around a piano, her chicken & dumplings and world-class cinnamon buns, and the conversations we all had with her while perched on stools around the island in the kitchen. Cathy was predeceased by her grandson Zachary, her parents Val and Anastasia Leibel, parents-in-law, Karl and Christine Reschny, brothers Mike, Willie, Steve, Ted and Norbert Leibel, brothers-in-law Anthony Reschny, Lyn Robertson and sister-in-law Carol Leibel. Mom is undoubtedly organizing a heavenly choir to perform a family sing-along in four-part harmony. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Elmer; her children Susan (Jan Semenoff), Shannon (Drew Kirk), Jeff; her Schmid daughters, Marianne (Dan Hawkins), Maria (Marc Stachiw), and JoAnne (Josh Bruinsma); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Alex and Ben Semenoff (Karly), Lauren Campbell (Devan and Kaycee), Katie, Daniel and Olivia Lozinski, Peyton Reschny, Victor and Dominic Stachiw, and the Kirk step-grandchildren, Sean (Jessica and Cole), Adam (Alicia, Cerulean and Zephyr), Andrea, and Emily (Devin). She is also survived by siblings Sr. Valentia Leibel, Josine Klemm (George), Imelda Robertson, Tom Leibel, Betty Ferraton (Leo), Robert Leibel, Maynard Leibel and Theresa Winterhalt (Ralph); siblings-in-law Elsie, Marie, Sally and Ellen Leibel, Lillian Weimer (Ernie), John Reschny (Jeannette), Mary (Chuck) Deck, Gary Reschny, Louise Reiniger (Lloyd); Dorothy Kowalyk; Mark Reschny (Debbie); Gilbert Reschny (Julia), Brenda Stang (Lyle); and innumerable nieces and nephews. The Vigil for Catherine will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. Both services will be held at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Pl.) in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation or the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
