Arnold McCully Matthews
MATTHEWS, Arnold – Born March 31, 1927
On the morning of August 6, 2019 in his 93rd year, Arnold McCully Matthews peacefully said his final goodnight surrounded by family. Known as an honourable “papa”, he proudly leaves behind his son Ronald Matthews (Wendy), granddaughter Katlee (Ivan), grandson Shawn (Shelley) and great grandchild Jack. Reunited with his wife Esther Matthews (nee Purdy), daughter Judith Bradley (nee Matthews), parents Earl and Iola Matthews and siblings Alfred, Chesley, Irene, Beatrice and Fern. Arnold retired from John Deere in 1987 as a Pattern Maker after a noble 39 years of service. His retirement consisted of travelling to warmer climates with his beloved wife of 68 years, enjoying a good meal with family, appreciating a strong drink with friends, playing a competitive golf game with his son and curling during the winter months. Cremation has taken place with a memorial to be planned in Truro, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Niagara, with cards available at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland.
