Obituary of Anna Mak (Nemeth)
Absent in body… Present with the Lord
With profound sadness we share the passing of Anna, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on August 23, 2019. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Maple Park Lodge, Fort Erie, Ontario. She was in her 99th year. Born in Kantorjanosi, a village in the Northern Great Plain region of Eastern Hungary, she was the eighth born of ten children to Carl and Mary Kiss. In 1938, at the age of 18, by cattle boat, she traveled to Canada where she met and married her husband Louis Nemeth. They later settled in Port Colborne. After being widowed at the age of forty she remarried and relocated to Toronto where she worked as a domestic and ran a boarding house. Anna was a gifted gardener and had the most beautiful rose gardens. She lived alone for many years in Toronto but was very independent, stubborn and hardworking. She supported herself and made new friends while she enriched herself in her church. At the age of 80, she returned to Port Colborne to reside at Gilead Manor where she planted, weeded, watered and harvested a vegetable garden for all the residents to enjoy. Near her 94th birthday she made her last home at Maple Park Lodge. She was the beloved mother of Alex (Pat) Nemeth, proud grandmother of Stacie (Merle) Beam, Alexsandra (Doug) Nemeth, Victoria (Gary) McKee, Kristine (Christopher) Schneider, Steven (Louise) Nemeth and Tammy DeRasp, loving great grandmother of Evan and Madelyn Beam, Stephanie, Tyler, and Laurissa Nemeth and Dalton McKee and great great grandmother of Sophia, Olivia and Carson Nemeth. Also remembered by Karson and Royce Gooder. Anna is predeceased by husbands Louis Nemeth Sr. and Frank Mak, son Louis Nemeth Jr., daughter-in-law Doreen Nemeth and her nine siblings. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Spencer and all of mom’s caregivers. Also, a special thank you to Marlene Flagg, mom’s roomie. Anna’s family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Thursday August 29, 2019 from 1-2 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow in the Armstrong Chapel at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 10672 Lakeshore Rd, Wainfleet, Ontario. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International in Canada.
