Alice MacLeod
1924-2019
Alice MacLeod, 95
Sydney NS
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we, the family
of Alice MacLeod, announce her peaceful passing at the New Waterford
Hospital on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019.
Born in Sydney on January 21, 1924, she was the daughter of
the late Duncan Rory and Margaret (MacLeod) Ferguson.
Alice is lovingly missed and survived by her daughters,
Barbara (Jim) Wedsworth,
Margaret MacLeod; her son, Philip
(DonnaLee) MacLeod; granddaughters, Laura (Dan) Corkum and Barbara
Connell; grandsons, Matthew (Melissa) MacLeod and Graham (Laura
Bryden) MacLeod; granddaughter-in-law, Maria Wedsworth;
great-grandchildren, Richard, Michael, Joseph, Lizzie, Ashley, Jason,
Adam, Olivia; stepgrandson, John; and great-great-grandsons, Ryse and
Murphy. Also surviving are sisters, Edna Taker and Marjorie Kerr and
her brother, Alec (Theresa) Ferguson, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, John Angus (1992);
grandson, John Wedsworth; sisters, Christina Ferguson, Annie May Ross,
and Betty Kowalczyk; brothers, Donald Ferguson, James Alex MacLeod;
and foster brother, Eric Pardington.
Alice worked at Sobeys in Sydney for 30 years starting at
the Charlotte St. store and was on hand as the new store was
opened in the Prince Street shopping mall. Alice was a member and
faithful attender of Bethel Presbyterian Church Sydney and a past
member of Morning Star Lodge Loyal True Blue Association. A loyal
supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and an avid follower
of Question Period and House of Commons discussions, she kept
up with world happenings. Her sense of humour and quick wit was
evident every day and her greatest laugh would be if the joke was on
her. Alice and John Angus spent many happy summers at the
MacLeod homestead on Rooster Hill entertaining family and
friends with great food, lots of music and parties and made wonderful
memories for the family to enjoy.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Wednesday, August 7
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service
will be on Thursday, August 8 at Bethel Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m.
with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial
Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel
Presbyterian Church, Sydney or to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church,
North River.
