It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert (Al) Brandt at the age of 91 years. Al passed away peacefully in the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on August 26, 2019. Al was born on May 16th, 1928 and was raised in Swan Lake Manitoba.
Al married Denise Sierens in December 1950 and she was the love of his life until her untimely passing in 1989. Al was also predeceased by his parents Maria and Cyriel, and his brothers Omer and Raymond. He leaves to mourn his sister Loretta Joyce, and sons Laurence (Claire Carmichael), Robert (Margot Jameson), Glen (Fiona), and David. Al will also be greatly missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides operating a bulk oil business, Al drove a school bus, delivered coal and did other odd jobs to support his family. Al worked for North Star Oil which became Shell Canada while in Swan Lake. His hobbies were hockey, duck hunting, and fishing before he discovered golf which became his passion until he could no longer swing a golf club. Al moved the family to Dauphin, Manitoba in 1968 where he took on a larger job and territory with Shell Canada. Management was never his favorite work and he ended his career with Gulf Oil and Petro Canada doing what he loved, delivering fuel products to farms, businesses, and homes.
Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was alone for many years after Denise’s passing. Al later found deep friendship and companionship with Betty Tordon, who unfortunately has also passed away. He was a wonderful man who won the hearts of all he met. Al had an infectious love for life and his sons will dearly miss the annual golf and card playing get-togethers.
The Brandt family would like to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Penrose and all of the wonderful and caring staff at the Dauphin Regional Heath Centre.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Medicine Unit or Palliative Care at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.
