Memorial Donation
Wiegand (Jim) Abram Neustaedter, 84, of Steinbach, Manitoba, died peacefully on August 3, 2019.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, daughter Melody Loewen and her husband Paul of Calgary, AB, son Paul Neustaedter and his wife, Mary Jane, of Steinbach, MB, and son Mark Neustaedter and his wife, Natalie, of Calgary, AB; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Deirdre) Loewen, David (Kayla) Loewen, Simon Loewen, Georgia (fiancé Daniel Jackett) Neustaedter, Max Neustaedter, Kristy (Paul) Marsch, Sydney Neustaedter, and Talia Neustaedter, and three great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Milo, and Emilia; four siblings, Alvin Neustaedter, Irene Giesbrecht, Irmgard Neufeld (Robert), and Waldo (Bonnie) Neustaedter.
Wiegand was born in the RM of Hanover on May 30, 1935, to Abram and Helena Neustaedter. He grew up in Steinbach and in July of 1959, he married Phyllis Penner. Wiegand’s love and commitment to his wife was a beautiful example to his family and all who knew him. This July they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
His first love was his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He accepted Christ into his life when he was eight years old. He had an incredible heart for others and shared his faith readily. His greatest desire was to see his children, grandchildren, and generations to come, have a personal relationship with Jesus.
In 1960, he began working for his father-in-law, A.D. Penner, as office manager at Penner Construction. He was a determined young man and, in spite of being shy, sold cars door to door in the countryside in the off season; this eventually led to the purchase of Penner Dodge. He sold Penner Dodge in 1976, and thereafter went into real estate sales for four years. In 1982, he started Steinbach Dodge Chrysler, and later during his retirement appreciated having an office at the business. With joy and purpose, he continued to connect with the Steinbach Dodge family until he went into the hospital a few weeks ago.
During those years Jim was involved in the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce, Steinbach Auto Dealers Association, and Steinbach Beautification Committee. For many years he also served as a board member at both his local church and at the Briercrest Family of Schools. He was a strong supporter in Christian Camp ministries, Bible Colleges, missions, and the local church.
Upon retirement he continued to keep busy at the acreage in the country. He loved nature and found great joy in planting trees, gardening, picking flowers, feeding and watching birds and deer. He invited his grandchildren to come in the summer and work with him, building relationships and teaching them life skills and lessons. You would also often find Jim at a coffee shop, connecting with long time friends and new acquaintances.
He was an incredibly generous and kind person, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He intentionally connected with each of his children and grandchildren in unique ways and they loved him dearly. We have many fond memories of fishing, golfing, hiking, boating, and vacationing.
As his body was shutting down and often in great pain, the praises on his lips never stopped, raising his hands to his Lord as the family sang at his hospital bedside. Even though he endured incredible pain in the last six months, he continued to give thanks to God just as he always had done. His legacy will never be forgotten in the way he reflected the father-heart of God to many, as he demonstrated what love and care means in a marriage, and what friendship looks like in everyday life.
We are truly grateful for a life well-lived to the glory and honour of Jesus Christ.
