Agnes (Loewen) Braun of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Frank Braun, passed away in Brooks on Wednesday, August 28th, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Agnes was born to David and Elizabeth Loewen on January 23rd, 1929 in Rabbit Lake, SK. In December of 1929, she moved with her parents and six older siblings to Crowfoot, AB. and in 1931 moved to Gem, AB., where six more siblings were added to the Loewen family. She attended grade-school in Gem and graduated from Alberta Mennonite High School in Coaldale, AB. in 1948. After high school she attended a one-year teacher training program in Calgary, AB. and taught school in Tilley, AB. and Rosemary, AB. On August 19th,1951 she married the love of her life, Frank Braun of Gem. For a few years they lived in Calgary, before returning to Gem, where they were able to purchase the farm from her father, David Loewen. They left the farm in 2005 and retired to Rosemary and in 2013 moved into Newbrook Lodge in Brooks. Together they raised six children: Janice (Don) Juneau, Erwin (Renate) Braun, Ray (Ruth) Braun, Carol (Derek) Reid, Harold (Brian) Braun and Lorna (Arnold) Retzlaff. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2015 and her grandson Darryl Juneau in 1992. She will be dearly missed by her children and their spouses, her 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five surviving siblings and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 5th at 2:00 PM from the Gem M.B. Church. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Gem Cemetery. In memory of Agnes, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Suite 210, 2946 – 32 Street N.E., Calgary, Alberta T1A 4H6.
