Obituary of Lloyd Sager
SAGER, R. Lloyd “Sags” B.A. Ottawa U and Trent U. Graduate of Peterborough Teachers College – Peacefully, with his family at his side, at Fairhaven Home, on Tuesday, August 27 2019, in his 77th year. Lloyd, beloved husband of Elinor (nee Findlay) for 51 years. Loving father of Steve (Jennifer). Loving grandfather of Jordyn, Hayden, Preston, Kingsley and Garner Sager. Brother in law of the late Don Findlay (surviving wife Bonnie) of B.C. Dear uncle of Lesley and Erin.
A retired teacher with Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board who taught Math, English, and Physical Education, at Queen Elizabeth and then Confederation Public School, then became teacher and Vice-Principal of Ridpath, Prince of Wales, Armour Heights, Queen Elizabeth, North Cavan and Westmount Public Schools. An athlete, Lloyd played first base in the Industrial Baseball League, and later in the Senior League for 11 years. He also umpired in the ladies league. Lloyd grew up playing hockey, and enjoyed playing with the Keene Teachers’ Team. He coached floor hockey, soccer, track and field and baseball. He also taught many students to play chess. An avid walker, hunter and fisherman. Lloyd and Elinor cottaged and partied at the Maple Leaf Hotel, near Young’s Point, with three other families from 1983-2000, then were Snowbirds spending winters in Clearwater FL from 2001-2011. Lloyd will be remembered by many former students, friends and neighbours.
A Celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at the Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 1-3 pm. Please come prepared to share a story about Lloyd.
