Barnes, Robert (Rob) John
Robert (Rob) John Barnes Jr. Sergeant at the North Bay Jail MCSCS, 48 years old, of Sturgeon Falls Ontario.
It is with great sorrow that his family announces that Rob took his last breath shortly before 10 am August 20th 2019 in the Hummingbird Hospice Room of the WNGH. After a courageous 14 month battle with Glioblastoma multiforme stage 4 brain cancer, Rob’s last week was filled with love, laughs and stories of good times.
Rob was adopted after his birthday January 13th 1971, by his loving parents Robert (Bob) John Sr. and Sadie Barnes in Sydney Cape Breton. Not too many people realize Rob was a Cape Bretoner but once people got to know him he showed them that the Cape Bretoner’s are caring and thoughtful people. Rob has always put everyone above his own needs even in his last days he was more worried about his family and friends than himself.
Rob left home after high school to begin in a career that he not only loved but was passionate about so much that he gave 100% in whatever rank he was assigned. Rob’s love for his career brought him to various provinces and territories across Canada.
Rob’s career eventually brought him to North Bay where he met his loving future wife Jeannette Michel. They have been together 14 years, married 10 and have a beautiful family. Rob was a loving, devoted and often humorous husband and father. He loved and was proud of his home.
Rob leaves behind his loving wife Jeannette Michel-Barnes (daughter of Pierre and Suzanne Michel of Noelville), son Nicholas Barnes (New Brunswick), daughters Sydney and Rylee Barnes, brother Dwayne Smith (Shelley, Nova Scotia) sisters Kathy and Lori Barnes (Nova Scotia), brother-in-laws Claude Michel (Noelville) and Jean Michel (Hanmer), best friend almost like a brother Rodney Martin Keefe (Shelley, North Bay). He will also deeply be missed by his nieces and nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family will be receiving visitors on Saturday August 24th 2019 at McGuinty Funeral Home (123 Railway street Sturgeon Falls) from 1 pm – 4 pm with a Celebration of Life at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to One Kids Place or the Hummingbird Hospice at the West Nipissing General Hospital would be gratefully appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com.
