Melvin McGean
Sydney Mines
It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of
Melvin McGean, 82, on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Jack and Viola (Jessome) McGean.
Melvin was a proud coal miner for 35 years, before his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his sons; Brian (Sherri), BC, Wayne (Laurie), Sydney Mines, Kenneth (Sharon), AB, Darrin (Wendy), ON, David (Tanya), Sydney, and Keith, Sydney Mines. Also left to mourn their beloved “Poppy” are his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, his brothers Bob (Jean), and Eddie (Lillian), and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Eunice (Morgan), brothers Lawrence, Doug and Gordon, and sisters Jean Merritt, Shirley Devoe, Mary Dormiedy, and Madonna Brown.
A special thank you to the staff of the ER and Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who treated Melvin with dignity, respect and compassion. Words cannot express our gratitude.
Visitation for Melvin McGean will take place Sunday, August 18, from 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
