Reah H. Conrad
1926-2019
On March 01, 2019 Reah Howatt Conrad passed away to re-unite
with her loving husband Hirley in the gates of Heaven. Living into her
93rd year, she was predeceased by her parents
Celia and Arthur Jay. Brother George and sister Nancy White. She was
survived by her children Paula, Carl and Eric, grandson Patrick and in
addition two sisters Honey Roberts and Alice Gordon (deceased August
14 2019).
Born in 1926, the same year as Queen Elizabeth and
like her counter part instilled a matriarchal philosophy with her
immediate and extended Jay families.
Growing up in the depression presented many
challenges including leaving school early to help her mother at home,
later in life she went back to night school to complete her grade
12.
She was very active with her church, taught Sunday
school and was a leader in her UCW. Election year she could be seen
driving her candidate around the Borden area, this may have inspired
her to get into politics becoming Bordens first female town
councillor.
Losing was not in her vocabulary as demonstrated by
the Jay sisters grit winning the PEI senior Hockey and a regional
championship won in Springhill Nova Scotia. Later she became involved
in the Borden rink running the canteen and coaching figure skating
when she was not taking her children to their own hockey
events.
Following retirement from working in the Borden
gift shop she could be seen knitting mittens for her grandson or the
church bazaar and baking her sons favourite cinnamon rolls or raisin
bread.
The golden girls could always be seen in the
kitchen window playing 45’s.
The Conrad family would also like to extend their
deepest appreciation to the staff at the South Shore Villa for the
love and care she received there for her last two and a half
years.
Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday Aug
24th at the Davison Funeral Home in Kensington.
Graveside committal service to follow shortly after at Floral Hills
Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley, PEI.
