The family announces with great sorrow her passing in Sudbury, Sunday, August 11th, 2019 at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of the late George Jolicoeur. Daughter of the late Joseph “Joe” and the late Claire (née Charrette) Menard. Loving mother of Monique Jolicoeur, Daniel (Lise Landry) Jolicoeur, Guy (Debby Shewchuk) Jolicoeur and Marc Jolicoeur. Sister of Dorothy (Ron) Poulin and Hermance (late Rene) Desjardins. Predeceased by her siblings Maurice (Flo Hagger) Menard, Mabel (Ken) Wagner, Yollande (Ron) Scott, Dorice (Marcelle) Menard, Leonie (late Burt) Sanche. Cherished grandmother of Eric (Valerie), Mélanie Jolicoeur Goettler (Craig), Jesse (Natalie), Christian (Mélina), Evan, Martin and Olivia and great grandmother of Mattéo, Geneviève, Annabelle and Maxime. Rita will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Rita was passionate about genealogy and spent the last few decades tracing the roots of the Jolicoeur and Menard families. She revelled in meeting new people to learn their stories and often times discovered she was somehow related to them! We as the family often laughed at these encounters as we joked with her that she was related to everyone. She had a wonderful social network who met regularly for coffee in her former neighbourhood, the Flour Mill. Rita was a volunteer for many organizations including her beloved church, St Jean de Brebeuf, and les Dames Auxiliaires. You may have encountered her during elections as she often gave her service at the polling stations. Always keenly aware of current events, she enjoyed sharing her views and opinions. In her youth, she raised four rambunctious kids and loved working at Eaton’s and Reitman’s. She loved growing and tending to her flowers. Always refined and quiet soul she could surprise everyone with a one-line zinger! The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, August 18th, 2019 at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle BLVD, Sudbury, ON. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass to take place on Monday, August 19th, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St-Jean de Brébeuf Church, Sudbury. Donations made to the March of Dimes Canada (Daffodil Lodge) would be greatly appreciated.
