Ruby Jean Hooker aged 74, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 due to complications from kidney failure. Predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Stanley Staveley. She was the cherished mother to her two children Kevin (Shannon) and Heather (Ravindra) and beloved Nana Ruby to her five grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Keith), Lilyanne (Jeremy), Alexander, Andrew and Matty. Loved and remembered by her siblings Marsha Watson (Jim), Tom Hooker (Dotty), and Larry Hooker (Debbie) and her many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was born in Huntingdon, Quebec on September 13, 1944, the oldest child to Marshall Hooker and Jeanie Todd. Ruby went to elementary and high school in Huntingdon where she met her life-long dear friend Allison Kremer. After high school Ruby moved to Montreal where she earned her Nursing Assistant designation at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH). She worked at the MGH until she married and moved to Dundee, Quebec where she lived for almost 45 years before moving to Saint-Anicet and then Huntingdon in recent years.
Ruby was a great friend and she helped countless people in the community simply by being a kind friend and a compassionate listener. Many will miss their conversations with her and the support she provided. She was an avid and talented gardener whose beautiful flower gardens around the Dundee property were admired and won several local awards.
Ruby was accomplished artist in many mediums. As a visual artist, she created many paintings for friends and neighbours. She was also a skilled crafter and her crocheted and quilted creations were greatly appreciated by those lucky enough to receive one. She loved learning and read voraciously. Her literary interests ran the gamut from childrens’ literature to the classics to popular mysteries. Ruby loved a good book, an old-fashioned hand written letter, a good cup of coffee and a house full of family and laughter. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a perennial or donating to your local library in her memory. Many thanks to sisters-in-law Debbie Hooker & Dotty Hooker for the kindness and home care they gave Ruby in her last years.
A private family service will take place at a later date. FUNERAL ENTRUSTED TO : RODRIGUE MONTPETIT ET FILS INC. Online condolences and tributes may be made at www.rodriguemontpetitfils.com
