Robert (Bob) Reed of Leduc, AB passed away suddenly on July 5, 2019. He was born on October 2, 1934 in Rocky Mountain House, AB.
In 1937 the Reed family, consisting of father Melvin, mother Rose, Bob and his siblings Bernice, Don and Francis, re-located to Nordegg, AB where they owned and operated the family business, Reeds Highway Service Garage and Auto Camp Cabin and Cafe. Work ethics and skills were instilled in each of the siblings where they were challenged with and responsible for a diverse variety of tasks ranging from baking pies to changing tires.
Bob completed grades 1-12 in Nordegg. He began a new phase of his life and career in 1954 by attending the University of Alberta and graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Armed with his newly earned certification, Bob began a twenty-five year career with Alberta Treasury Branches. During this time, Bob’s hard work and expertise, his dedication to ATB and continually exhibiting a high level of ethics and honesty, were rewarded with a series of promotions leading to the senior position of Director of Administration. He retired in 1985.
Retirement was short. Bob began a new career and for the following six years was a part-time consultant with the Bank of Alberta (Canadian Western Bank).
While posted in Vermilion, AB, Bob met his wife Shirley (McDonald). Bob’s career took the couple to Red Deer, Ryley, Calgary, Cardston with the final stop being the Head Office in Edmonton. Following many years of re-locating and renting houses and apartments, Bob and Shirley enjoyed thirty-three years of life in a house they purchased in Sherwood Park before moving to Leduc in 2003.
Bob’s smile, his polite and thoughtful personality and his willingness to help others will be missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his spouse, Shirley Reed; sisters Bernice (Bern) Olson and Francis Lyle. Bob was predeceased by his parents and brother Don (Pam). He will be missed by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces and many friends who were so important to him.
