Rita Anna Herkert 19402019

Rita Anna Herkert
1940-2019
It is with broken hearts that the family of Rita Anna
(Schirmer) Herkert announce her peaceful passing on July 20, 2019. She
was born in Walldürn, Germany on January 23, 1940 to the late
Josef and Anna (Stumpf) Schirmer.
Rita will be sadly missed by her husband of 60 years, Fred;
her children Christine and Fred (Pam); her grandchildren Ashley,
Brittany and Tyler; her siblings Josef (Ingrid), Willi (Anne), Gerhard
(Rita), Werner (Gerlinde), Bernhard (Sonja) and Maria Bunse (Hermann)
as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her
sister Marliese Hock and her brother-in-law Siegfried
Hock.
Rita immigrated from Walldürn, Germany to Ontario,
Canada in 1960 at the age of 19 unable to speak English, however, she
soon mastered the English language. She married the love of her life,
Fred, for whom she came to Canada and they had their 2
children. They were partners in life and in business and
moved to New Brunswick in 1966 where they established their
construction company, Star-Lite Homes Ltd. in 1967, building numerous
homes in the Greater Fredericton area and later creating Star-Lite
Village, Lake Herkert and Eaglewood Village in
Hanwell.
Rita was loved and adored by her entire family and numerous
friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, Oma, sister, aunt,
friend and Mom to her fur baby Rex. Rita had a wonderful
sense of humour and an infectious smile. She was a generous
kind soul who would always be willing to help someone in
need. Rita enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, cross
stitching, knitting and crocheting. She travelled the world
extensively and always considered her vacations to her homeland of
Germany, Dubai, U.A.E. and the Panama Canal cruise to be amongst the
highlights of her travels. Rita thoroughly enjoyed the wildlife on her
beautiful Lake Herkert including her beloved Canadian Geese and Ducks
who would return every year to nest and to provide her with countless
hours of relaxation and pleasure.
She generously supported numerous charities
including: Heart & Stroke Foundation of New
Brunswick, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,
Fredericton SPCA, and the local Food Bank to name a
few.
At the request of the family, there will be no public
visitation. A funeral mass will take place at St. Dunstan’s
Catholic Church on Friday, July 26th, 2019 at
12:05 pm with Fr. Monte Peters officiating. A private interment will
take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who
wish may make donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation,
or to a charity of their own choosing.
