GRATTON, Phyllis Allene, age 95 of Upper Brookside, Colchester County passed away Monday, July 22, 2019. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Percy Clark Fulton and Grace (Upham) Fulton. A lifelong resident of the Truro area, Phyllis began her career with the Truro Electric Commission in 1942. She continued with the utility after its purchase by Nova Scotia Light and Power and retired as office manager from the Nova Scotia Power Corporation in 1986. With her late husband Harvey, she operated Trollhattan Kennels raising and exhibiting champion Doberman Pinschers and Smooth Fox Terriers. Phyllis also bred Wire Fox Terriers for a time. In addition to their kennel, Phyllis also served as a show ring steward, handled dogs for others and groomed dogs. Over the years she was active in a number of local and national dog clubs. She was a Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) licensed judge of working, terrier and herding breeds and was a recipient of the CKC 50 Year Award. In addition to her canine activities, Phyllis enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, going to yard sales, gardening and the company of her cats, Hobo and Lester. Surviving are her daughter, Emily Gratton; sister, Frances Langille and nephew, Bruce Langille, all of Truro. The family would like to thank the medical staff of the Aberdeen Hospital and the ER, Ward E-3 and Palliative care staff of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Cremation has taken place. As per Phyllis’ request, no funeral service will be held. The family will receive friends and visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 25th in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Private burial in Bible Hill Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the CNIB Foundation Nova Scotia at cnib.ca.
