Orest William Melnyk July 19 2019

On Friday, July 19, 2019, Orest Melnyk of Edmonton (formerly of Myrnam) passed away at the age of 77 years, just two weeks shy of his 78th birthday, with his son by his side. Orest will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son Ian. Orest was predeceased by his parents Steve and Julia and wife Elizabeth Joan in 2009.
Orest spent his career caring for others as a RNA/LPN. Orest started his career at the Veterans Home where he met his wife to be, then spent 25 years at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, mainly working in the school hospital. Orest also spent close to 26 years part and full-time with Catholic Social Services Group Homes. Orest enjoyed sports and was a life long
NY Yankees fan going back to his early days playing around Myrnam. Orest held season tickets for the Edmonton Eskimos and Oilers for many years and also liked the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Orest cherished many family vacations. This included annual trips to Fairmont Hot Springs, several by motorhome on summer vacation. After retirement, many winter getaways were taken to California, Florida, the Hawaiian Islands, especially Maui and Aruba. Orest’s last vacation was with his son in December to Grand Cayman Island.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10:00 am at Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elia, 11837 – 66 Street, Edmonton.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Thank you to all the staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital who cared for Dad during his stay there.
