Mildred Clapperton
May 31, 1928 – July 2, 2019
Millie Clapperton, formerly of Baltimore Ontario, passed away peacefully at Golden Plough Lodge Cobourg, Ontario on July 2, 2019 at the age of 91. She will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by her children, Dr. Carole (the late George Bailey), Larry (Mary Jane), Ken (Lolly); and her grandchildren Murray (Nancy), Trevor (Dawn), Adrienne, and Susan (Jeffrey Yarde); and her great-grandchildren, Trent, Owen, Drew, Aidan, Justin, Avery, Shontelle Yarde and the late Cooper. Millie is survived by her sister-in-law Olga Apperley and many nieces and nephews. Millie was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ross in 2004 and by all of her siblings, Ray, Eldeen Grant, Rudy, Clara Jarvis, and Vern. She was also pre-deceased by her son-in-law George Bailey, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nephews and a niece. Millie was born to Raymond Apperley and Helga (nee Holm) on May 31, 1928 in Pelly, Saskatchewan. Both parents passed when Millie was young. She was sent to Ontario when the children were orphaned. Millie met supportive families who helped her develop a new life. She married Ross in 1946 and lived happily in Baltimore for most of their 58 years of marriage. They moved to an apartment in Cobourg after retirement and when Ross passed, Millie moved to the Legion Village. Five months ago she moved to the Golden Plough Lodge. Millie always said that her proudest achievement was her family. She had no regrets about her life. She was a devoted wife and mother who excelled at domestic arts. She loved to cook, bake, sew, quilt and do needlework. She was an expert at patching grandkids jeans and kept old jeans for “parts”. Millie loved to play cards and politics became her passion in later life. After being orphaned, she did not see all of her siblings together again until she was 30, and she loved getting together with all of her western family. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Millie’s life will be held at Baltimore Recreation Centre, North on Hwy 45, on Monday July 29, 2019 at 3 p.m. All are invited to come and share their memories of her. The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the staff at Golden Plough Lodge and the staff at Legion Village. Millie received kind and compassionate care for which the family is grateful. A wonderful young angel and friend appeared in Millie’s life in the last 2 years. Cassie Brouwer visited Millie regularly and made her laugh and brought joy to her life. The family is grateful for her kindness to our mother as well. Millie always had a soft spot for children in need. If you feel inclined, please donate to a children’s charity of your choice or to the Golden Plough Lodge or the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Millie’s memory. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
