We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jane (Tootsie) Wassilaskus, age 98, on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Taigh Solas, Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on March 30,1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ann (Donovan) Julian. She was a member of St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines.
Mary Jane is survived by sons Tony (Elaine) and Brian, grandchildrenTara (Tim) Fraser, Kelly (Mike) Stone and Bradley (Lisa), great-grandchildren Brandon and Anthony Stone, Spencer Fraser, Noah and Isabella Wassilaskus, sister Theresa Alward, who shared much of their life together, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband Johnnie, brothers Tony, Albert, Jimmie and Charlie.
Special thanks to her doctor Beth MacCormick and all of the health caregivers and support staff that assisted her, along with the wonderful people of Taigh Solas, her second home.
Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors from 10-11am Thursday, July 4 at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 am with Fr Jim Oliver officiating. The burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
