It is with saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Josephine (Josie) Brazil (nee Cooney) at Carbonear General Hospital on July 19, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
Josie is predeceased by her husband Leo Brazil; mother Nora Cooney; father Edward Cooney, sister Mary Murray (Chester); brothers: Leonard Cooney, Richard Cooney (Henrietta); brothers-in-law Jim Brazil, Gus Brazil, Walter Brazil (Margaret), and son-in-law David Snow. Leaving to mourn with tender and loving memories are her seven children: Brenda, Joanne, Jerome (Delores), Margie (Mike Gorman), John, Leona (Edsel Mercer), and Debbie (Ralph Earle); brother: Joe Cooney (Linda); brother-in-law: Frank Brazil (Marie); sister-in-law Frances Brazil: special cousin Betty Earle; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Josie was a kind, humble lady with a huge heart, always known for putting the needs of others before herself. She loved the simple pleasures of life, her garden, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a bright warm light in this world that will forever be missed.
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Howse, Dr. Efford, Paulette St. Croix and Bay Roberts Community Health staff for their care and compassion; and to all family and friends for their visits, prayers and support through this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Spaniards Bay, on Sunday, July 21 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Family service is to take place on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Lynch’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Spaniard’s Bay. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in her loving memory to the Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice.
