John Alexander McCracken
1943-2019
John Alexander McCracken of Fredericton passed away
peacefully on July 16, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born
in Toronto, ON, on May 11, 1943, he was the husband of Susan (Brown)
McCracken.
In addition to his wife, Susan, John leaves behind his
brother-in-law, Alex Cummings of New Maryland, NB; nieces and nephew,
Cathy Baker of New Maryland, Brian Cummings of Grand Lake, NB, and
Heather Delorey of Everett, Mass; as well as his cousins in Ontario.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Anne (Brown) McCracken of
Lindsay, ON.
John had a long time association with the Boys and Girls
Clubs of Canada. He was Executive Director for the former Eastview
Boys and Girls Club in Oshawa, ON, for 28 years and was President of
the Boys and Girls Club of Fredericton. He received both the Bronze
and Silver Keystone Award for outstanding service to youth from the
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.
John was a past member and Board member of the Toronto
Central Lions Club and past member Westmount Kiwanis Club of Oshawa
Ontario. He was awarded the Arn Greene Award from the John Howard
Society of Durham Region (Ontario) for outstanding service to
youth.
At John’s request there will be no visitation or
service. He would suggest you take your dog for a walk or enjoy the
sunset.
John and Susan have been long time supporters of Dog Guides
of Canada through the Lions Foundation, having sponsored a number of
Guide Dogs. They would appreciate donations to this organization,
attention to Julie Jelinek (www.dogguides.com),
the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your
choice.
Thank you to all our family, friends, and advisors. Susan is
extremely grateful to all of you for the personal support you have
provided over the last 2 years. Special thank you to the nursing staff
on 4NW, the Palliative Care staff and to our family doctor, Dr.
MacIntosh.
