James (Gerry) Gerard Maher

Gerry passed peacefully away at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion and is now reunited with his soul mate and loving wife Mercedes (nee Byrne). Leaving to carry on his wonderful sense of humor and giving nature are his four children Mike (Kim Kelly), Sean, Kelly Hiscock (Jim) and Andrea Krushel (Rob) as well as his five grandchildren: Alyssa (Matthew Chaulk) and Evan Maher (their mother Denise), Mackenzie and Reegan Hiscock and Ben Krushel. Also remembered by special family members Mary Fahey (Raymond), Ken Byrne (June), Ronnie Byrne (Agnes), Shelia Hennessey (Mike), Catherine Conway (Bob), Shirley Thorne Temple and special sisters-in-law Maureen Quinn and Elizabeth Barnes (Richard) and many nieces and nephews in the Maher and Byrne families. Predeceased by his parents Bridget and James, sister Uriel Ryan (Peter Jack) and brothers Cyril (Milley), Arthur (Irene) and Alfred (Bride), parents in-law Frances and Ronald Byrne, brothers-in-law John, Gerry and Paul Byrne, Jim Quinn, Jim Doran, sister-in-law Zita Byrne and nephew Aodhan Joyce.
Gerry was Chief Warrant Officer with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band. He had a love of music which he passed on to his family members. He also played many sports, especially softball with the Knights of Columbus and Baseball with St. Pats.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to all who visited Gerry and supported the family since the passing of Mercedes. A special thank you to the staff of the Veterans Pavilion who lovingly cared for him during his stay.
Cremation has taken place and the family is accepting visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 18. A celebration of life will take place at Caul’s Chapel on Thursday, July 18 at 2:00 pm with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion.
