Obituary
Service Details
Mrs. Christina “Ina” Haigh, formerly of Oxbow, passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Adventist Care Home in Saskatoon, SK. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the age of 97.
She is survived by her immediate children: daughter, Sharron (Bob) Batt of Regina, SK., son, David (Connie) Haigh of Brandon, MB., and son, Allan (Mavis) Haigh of Saskatoon, SK.; grandchildren: Leanne (Gary) Paproski, Jeanette (Gord) Bellavance, Doug (Sara) Batt, Curtis (Kristen) Haigh, Braden (Ashley) Haigh, Shawn (Kendra) Haigh; great-grandchildren, Travis & Brendan Paproski, Sara, Brett & Jay Bellavance, Kristina and Jenna Batt, Rogan Haigh and Isabelle Haigh; also sister-in-Law, Gladys Clark of Edmonton, AB.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Douglas Haigh in 2002; father, Adam Clark in 1954; mother, Christina Clark in 1989; sister, Muriel Clark in 1976; and brother, Jim Clark who passed 3 days before Mom.
Mom was born January 19, 1922 in Lochgelly, Scotland. She was the eldest child of Adam Clark and Christina Selkirk-Wood Clark . The family emigrated from Scotland to Canada and arrived in Quebec June 14, 1926 when Mom was 4 years old. The family further travelled by rail to their new home Souris, MB. where her father was employed in the Railroad Locomotive Roundhouse. She attended school in Souris and later entered the School of Nursing in Winnipeg. She loved nursing but was forced to give it up when her roommate and herself came in contact with tuberculosis. While neither one were inflicted with the disease it was deemed that they could not come in contact with patients. She worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses for a while but later returned to Souris as she had met a young man-our father Doug Haigh. Doug was a RCAF flight trainer stationed in Rivers MB. during the second World War and when the war ended they were married July 1, 1946. Their first home was in Souris and all three children were born in Souris. The family later moved to Oxbow SK. in 1952, when they purchased the hardware store from Jim Gillespie.
Mom graciously donated her time to the community of Oxbow and surrounding area with various service groups, the order of the Eastern Star, The United Church and the UCW, the Oxbow Hospital Auxiliary, the Canadian Red Cross Blood Donors, the Canadian Legion, and the Seniors Club.
Mom and Dad moved from Oxbow to Saskatoon when Dad’s health deteriorated. This was big change for the two of them but they quickly became involved in the seniors home in which they lived. Mom became a dedicated volunteer, helping with flu clinics, singing in the choir and many other activities.
Mom enjoyed her time with family and friends that they had met over the years. We will miss her sense of humour, loving ways and great cooking.
A graveside service to be held in Oxbow at a later date.
