Suddenly, as a result of a workplace injury, John passed away, with family by his side, at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday June 26, 2019. John Hewetson age 77 of Williamsburg. Beloved husband of Carole (Roantree). Loving Dad of Sally (Jeff) Vaessen, Joanne (Mathew) Zettler, Nick (Nancy) Hewetson, Lisa Hewetson (David) and Rachel Hewetson. Cherished Grandpa and Poppa of Sarah (Jason) Rylaarsdam, Nick (Lisa) Vaessen, Krista Zettler (Thomas), Jonathan(Kerri) Zettler, Xanthia Hewetson, Sasha (Derrick) Felkar, Austin Hewetson, Alex (Chelsea) Parkinson, Melanie VanSchaick, Adam VanSchaick, Katherine Hewetson and great-grandchildren Carter, Mya, Brooklyn, Alice, Lincoln, Hudson, Dane, Nolan and Gavin.
John began his mariner career in 1958, at the age of 17, graduating from Trinity House, Hull, England. In 1972, his passion for the sea brought John, wife Carole and family to Canada. John’s career spanned 60 years, with the past 25 working for Algoma Central Marine.
The family wishes to extent their gratitude to the Doctors and caring nursing staff of Winchester District Memorial Hospital.
