Gordon (Cody) William Cote, of Calgary Alberta, passed away on July 17, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 57 years.
He was born in Newmarket, Ontario on March 9, 1962 to the late Sydney Walker and Isobel Miller of Edinburgh, Scotland. Cody is survived by his loving partner, Suzanne Nacinovic; his son, Raymond Cote; Raymond’s mother, Elizabeth Spittal-Cote; his step-son, Russell Spittal; his brother, David Walker of Ottawa; his sisters, Heather Cote- Weir of Ottawa, and Yvonne Lindmark of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cody spent his childhood years in Ontario. At the age of 16 he traveled west, and at 18 became employed with the City of Calgary in Roads and Construction. He was a proud and loyal employee for 38 years at different levels of leadership positions in different departments. Cody’s last position was as a Foreman 6 for Roads and Construction. He was proud of his contributions to projects which are visible today as city landmarks. Cody was a union representative for CUPE local 709 for over 30 years; he held numerous positions from Job Steward, Vice President, Executive at Large, and Sergeant at Arms.
He worked endless hours representing his members with pride, integrity and honesty. Cody volunteered for the Special Olympics, coached Blackfoot Hockey, Spartans NSD, and organized United Way hockey teams for the City of Calgary. He participated in, and volunteered for numerous other charity and city-based events.
Cody was extremely social, fun-loving, adventurous, energetic, trustworthy, and honest. He was an avid motorcycle rider and car enthusiast. He was athletic and competitive and he loved playing baseball, golf, football, water sports and hockey. Hockey and the Toronto Maple leafs… he was their Number One Fan! Cody’s home and tattoo paid testament to his dedication to the blue and white. His love for the game has blessed him with an extended hockey family, playing anywhere and anytime all over Canada and United States.
Cody was generous to his family and friends – he loved family events and was always there no matter what, even when he was not well. He adored his son Raymond, never missing a daily conversation to express his love and share how proud he was of the young man Ray has become. Cody will be forever missed but never far away – he has left us with a lot of amazing memories to keep us smiling.
