Finley James William Cook March 15 1940 February 6 2019 (age 78)

Cook, Finley James William – Black Point, NB
In the presence of family, the death of Finley Cook occurred on February 6, 2019 peacefully at his home in Black Point – a place that he loved and moved to with his family at age five. He was born on March 15, 1940 in Doyleville, NB, the eldest son of William F. “Billy” and Isabel (Gallie) Cook.
At the age of 16 he left home to begin work which included working in a mine in Murdochville, PQ; at McMillan’s Wholesale in Jacquet River; the tobacco fields of Ontario; for Ion Hamilton on the farm in Blackland; driving truck and bus for Buddy Jamieson, and finally a long career with the NBIP Company as a longshoreman at the Dalhousie Wharf. He worked hard and at the same time always enjoyed a great deal of fun with his co-workers. Following his retirement, he was grateful for the opportunity to be a “dry-land fisherman”, helping his neighbour and good friend, Ricky Carrier. Finley also took great pride and joy working with his father, Billy, on the farm in Black Point.
He was affectionately known as “the Mayor of Black Point” by his neighbours on the Black Point Road. With his infectious smile, he loved to visit and tell stories about his antics through the years. He will be remembered by his family, neighbours and friends for his way with words and comical sayings and his willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. With a toothpick in his mouth, he was happy on his tractor; in the woods cutting wood; tending to the family farm; and spending time with family (on his terms).
He will be missed by his wife, Jean (MacMillan); his children, Jim (Mary), Pam, Mandi (Kris) and Eric; 2 grandchildren who he thought the world of, Nathaniel Webber-Cook and Johnny Brown; and one great-grandchild, Bella; sisters, Betsy (John) Dickie and Phyllis (Bernard) Furlong; brother, Douglas (Chris) Cook; sisters-in-law, Ellen Cook, Alice Webb, Marilyn MacMillan (Don), Pat (Roddy) MacAllister and Bonnie Hamilton; brother-in-law, Gerald (Gabriella) MacMillan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Bette (Hamilton); sisters, Lillian and Ruthie; brothers, Mac, Bruce, George and Kingston.
According to his wishes, visitation was held from MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point. A public graveside service will be held in New Mills Protestant Cemetery on Sunday afternoon, August 4th, 2019 at 2PM. In his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the New Mills Protestant Cemetery, Chaleur United Church or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Finley James William Cook March 15 1940 February 6 2019 (age 78)..
