ELTON “HUTCH” HUTCHINSON, 93
(October 12, 1925 – July 21, 2019)
On Sunday, July 21, 2019, Harry Albert Elton Hutchinson passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Hope Street Terrace in Port Hope, Ontario.
Born on a farm near Norham, Ontario, Elton resided in Warkworth, Campbellford, Cobourg and most recently Port Hope. Hutch was a very community-oriented man, volunteering at St. Paul’s United Church in Warkworth and St. John’s United Church in Campbellford. He served as president of The Rotary Club of Campbellford, was a Life Member and proud multiple recipient of the prestigious Paul Harris Award. Other contributions include: PUC commissioner from 1991 – 1994, Life Member of Campbellford Memorial Hospital, past-president, member and volunteer at Warkworth Golf Course, past-president and volunteer of Campbellford Curling and Racquet Club, member of the Over 90 Club at West Northumberland Curling Club and dedicated maintenance volunteer at Rosewood Estates in Cobourg. A lifelong practical joker, he loved golf, curling, music, dancing, planting his garden, swimming, napping and, most importantly, lending a helping hand to anyone with a project – neighbours, family, and friends – well into his late eighties.
Elton is survived by his wife, Ruth (née Smith), his children, Sandra (John) Thain, Maureen (Doug) Bilcox and Garth (Nancy) Hutchinson. Loving and proud Poppa to Rhonda (Leon), Michelle (Mike), Brian, Scott, Tyler (Nicole) and Justine (Justin). Great-grandpa to Matthew, Jade and Easton, uncle to many nieces and nephews, and loving playmate of his family’s many dogs throughout the years. Elton will be deeply missed by all his family and many dear friends of all ages.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at WEAVER Family Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Warkworth, Ontario, from 11am-1pm, immediately followed by a service at 1 PM. Interment at Warkworth Cemetery. Reception to follow, location to be confirmed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s United Church, Campbellford or Rotary International in his memory.
