Douglas Allan Bratt April 29 1946 July 16 2019 (age 73)

We are heartbroken to announce that DOUGLAS ALLAN BRATT passed away July 16, 2019 after a courageous and valiant battle with esophageal cancer. Doug was born in Comox on April 29, 1946; his ancestors were among some of the original pioneers who settled the Comox Valley. He was predeceased by his father Herbert Allan Bratt and mother Constance Mildred Bratt (nee Martin). He and his beloved wife Kim would have been married 48 years in August. Doug was the father of five wonderful children: Bryan (Heidi), Keith (Karen), Tracey (Don), Rachel (Trapper) and Heather (Tim). He was grandfather to 24 grandchildren and a great grandfather to 14. Doug is survived by his sister, Mary Bratt, from Victoria, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his mother in law, Kay Lacey, sister in law, Liz (Bill) and brother in law, Chuck (Susan).
Doug was the fourth generation in his family to have worked in the forest industry. He began working at the early age of 16 as a spark watcher for BCFP eventually developing his career in forest engineering where he completed many impressive bridge and road projects on Vancouver Island. Later in “retirement” using skills he had acquired, Doug worked on landfill projects in Port McNeill and Fort St. John. He was dedicated, hardworking and loyal in all interests and pursuits.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and his knowledge of the woods and water was legendary to family and friends. In practically all weather he could be found in his boat fishing for the illusive “big one” especially on the west coast of Winter Harbour, or gearing up for yearly hunting trips with family or friends. NASCAR was a passion he enjoyed watching and Doug would cheer on his favorite drivers as though they were family.
Doug was supportive and devoted to his wife and family in all their interests and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family has united in grief and wishes to thank all those who have supported us through this most difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Friderichs for his kind compassion, as well as Trudy of the Central Island nursing team. Our children and their spouses have been a phenomenal source of strength and support to their mom throughout their dad’s illness. As requested there will be no formal service, but at a future date, to honour the man whose campfires lit up the skies, there will be a bonfire held in his memory.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Douglas Allan Bratt April 29 1946 July 16 2019 (age 73)..
