Life Legacy
DION, Daniel John – Born as Daniel John Dion, but forever changed to “Bud” by his sister Kathryn calling him “my buddy”, he quietly passed on to his heavenly home on the morning of July 10, 2019 after 75 trips around the sun. He had a short struggle with cancer and spent his last days in the Bruyere Palliative Care Unit in Ottawa and the Hospice Niagara Stabler Centre visited by family and friends. Bud was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario and is survived by his mother, Mary Dion, his sister Kathryn Stewart, his youngest sister Candy Chafe and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Daniel and his brother David. In 1968, Bud married an American gal, Barb (Bo) O’Donnell and together they raised two beloved children, Dani J. Dion of Quepos, Costa Rica, and John P. Dion of Victoria, BC, and his children Gwen(15) and Ryan(8) Dion. He had enjoyed coaching John in baseball and having many giggles with his daughter. He also enjoyed besting his friends playing sports, board games and cards, and making wooden furniture but he never passed those skills on to his children.Bud’s first and forever love was his career as a Royal Canadian Regiment Major for many years, serving in Cyprus for four tours and an unaccompanied one year tour in England. After retiring he served as President in the Royal Canadian Legion #632 and was active in the Poppy Campaign every year. He lived up to his name as a “buddy” to many in the military service and veterans. A special thanks goes to staff and the social workers in the Bruyere Palliative Care Unit and the Hospice Niagara for their kindness and diligence to give him the best care. In lieu of flowers, we ask that Memoriam donations be given to the Bruyere Palliative Care Unit in Ottawa, On. and to Hospice Niagara Stabler Centre in St. Catharines, On. A memorial service will be held at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street in Niagara Falls on July 25. There will be a visitation at 11 am, a service at 1pm and an interment at 2 pm. Please join us to have fellowship, conversation and remembrances with family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Daniel John Dion October 2 1944
