We regret to announce the passing of Daniel Glasgow, MD, on
July 17, 2019, after a lengthy illness. Born September
1st, 1948 in Sydney to Frank and Dorothy (Arac)
Glasgow.
Dan spent his early education in Sydney, attended Pre Med at
St. F.X. University, and received his medical degree from Dalhousie
University in 1976. Dan practised Family Medicine in Canso, N.S.,
studied Pathology at the University of Calgary, and finished his
studies in pathology at Dalhousie in 1989. Dan practised Pathology in
Sydney until his retirement in 2013.
Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by infant brother
Hugh Reginald and beloved caregivers “Big” Dan
McNeil and Sarah Basker of North Sydney.
Dan is survived by his wife Marion (Clarke), step-mother
Jeanne Aucoin, daughter Lisa, sons Adam, Brian (Jennifer), and Arac.
Grandchildren Autumn, Brianna, Ella and Lawren. Also survived by
brothers Ian (Carol), Greg (Colleen), Michael (Debbie), sisters Moira
Legere-Sers (Robert), Laurie Flindall (Steve), and Theresa, and aunts
Julia MacKenzie, Sister Theresa Arac, and Louise
Glasgow.
Dan will long be remembered, loved and admired for his
enduring strength, selflessness, sense of humour, and devotion to
family.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff in the Cancer Centre
and An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and to Dr. Ron
McCormick, Dr. Steve MacDougall, and Dr. Anne Frances
D’Intino for their professional care. A very special thanks
to Dr. Hilda Tremblett for her steadfast support throughout
Dan’s illness.
At Daniel’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial
Chapel. If desired, donations may be made to the An Cala unit or the
Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital.
