We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Cecil
Richard Cross on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital.
Richard was born on June 23, 1930 to the late Elizabeth and
Percy Cross of Louisbourg.
Richard lived in Louisbourg his entire life. He worked at
National Sea Products Louisbourg for many years and fished his lobster
licence until this past season.
Richard always enjoyed family gatherings, having a good
laugh, and participating in the Louisbourg Christmas
Parade.
Richard loved his fishing and hunting trips with his
nephew, Blair, and telling his version of events about ‘the one that
got away’.
Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgina
(MacVicar) and his two sons, Richard Brian (Joanne) and Darrell
(Cathy), as well as his six grandchildern who were his pride and joy –
Joseph (Olivia Brogan), James, Mark, Emma (Michael) Spawn, Edward
(Elizabeth MacCormick), and Elizabeth (Coady) Slaunwhite.
Richard is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Donna
MacDonald, Irene Axani, Florence Deyoung, Esther Campbell, Kenneth
(Mary), and Donald (Isabel), as well as many nieces and nephews
especially Eileen (Michael) Burke, Blair (Heather) Cross, and Tracy
(Jo-Ann) MacDonald.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Harold
and Allan.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 2:00
p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Mr. Alex MacGregor presiding.
Interment will follow the service at Willow Grove Cemetery in
Louisbourg. Donations may be made to the Willow Grove Cemetery
Fund.
