Barb Janicek 1975 2019

Obituary for
Barb Janicek
Janicek, Barbara
Surrounded by loving family, Barb passed away on Saturday, July 13th , 2019, at the age of 44.
She leaves behind her caring parents, Stan and Doreen, and her loving sister Karen and her
husband, Jesse Berg. Her nephew, Ruben, will fondly remember his “Auntie Barb”. Aunts,
Uncles, cousins and extended family in Canada and the Czech Republic, as well as countless
friends, will hold precious memories of times shared with Barb. Her cat, Pete, is also missing
just “chilling out” with her.
Attending summer camps greatly shaped Barb’s life. After completing her B.A.(Trent) and
B.Ed.(Queen’s), she spent the next decade at Camp Wenonah near Bracebridge. Although she
has remained involved in the camping world, the next step on her journey took her to London
where she graduated with a MLIS (Western) in 2007. Her library career led her first to
Saskatoon, then Cambridge, and to Kitchener in 2011, where she worked as a children’s
librarian.
She will be remembered for her sense of humour, ready smile and her storytelling, which came
alive with puppets, costumes and crafts. Barb was there for others and her friends have shared
so many examples of Barb’s special acts of thoughtfulness. Her wish is to give as many children
as possible a chance to experience camp.
Special thanks to Barb’s medical “team” and the compassionate doctors and nurses at St.
Mary’s ICU.
A celebration of Barb’s life will be announced at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Diabetes Canada or CMHA Waterloo-Wellington
would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
