BALOGH, Laura Marie
—
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Laura Marie Balogh on July 29, 2019. She passed peacefully at home with her daughter June Balogh (forever at her side) along with Katie, her care aid. Laura was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Bundy Balogh, in 1997. She will also join her two lost babies John and Lawrence in heaven along with her mom, dad, and loving brother, George.
Laura and Andrew were married in 1944 in Saskatchewan. Together they raised a family, and later, moved to Kamloops BC. Laura later moved to live with June at the young age of eighty. They shared many adventures, Laura loved to cruise to her favourite spot the islands of Hawaii. Her favorite island was Honolulu on Oahu. She loved to sit on a bench, eat ice cream and watch all the people on Waikiki beach. She loved the perfume in the air and beauty of the islands. As well, she travelled to San Francisco and cruised under the famous Golden Gate Bridge. Laura and June shared many laughs and adventures, but mostly, they shared love for each other.
Any time friends came to dinner or over for a visit she always made sure they were well taken care of, right up to the end. Laura was a fighter and full of amazing strength. She was a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed with heart failure in 2010, and in 2015 she faced a new battle, dementia. The dementia later took the Mom that knew June, but they still shared many laughs and started to learn who each other was in a new way. In 2018 they added a new member to the family, a three-pound sable Pomeranian named Coco. Towards the end Coco would lay by Laura’s bed or next to her. Laura fought her battles with grace and beauty right to the end. She leaves behind five children, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
So many “thank-you’s” for the loving friends that were by our sides through the many battles; Bev Pozderka, Mario and Laura Bottazzini, Hani and Karmia Penman, Mark Tring, Timur Sultanov, Marion and Eric, Jay and Solange, Symentha Holmes, Patti Dennison and, Barb Best; and the care aids Katie and Marydel from St. Elizabeth; the nurses Sandra, Christine, and Ruth from Three Bridges; and a special thanks to the best doctor one could have, Dr. B Trott, for always being there for us.
Laura will be cremated and buried with her husband, Andrew, in Kelowna at a later date. Catholic service will be in Vancouver, the date will be also announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers mom had requested donations be made to her favourite charities, Canucks House, www.canuckplace.org, Ronald McDonald House, rmhbc.ca, and the SPCA, spca.bc.ca.
