It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Patrick Picard who died peacefully on July 1, 2019 at Waters Edge Care Community surrounded by his family.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Madeline (nee Rivet), his children Michelle Amyotte (Claude Champagne), Marc Picard (Pat Guenette) and Marie Curry (William (Bill) deceased). He was a wonderful grandfather to Chantal, Daniel, Timothy, Matthieu, André, Martin, Nicole and Pierre and his great-grandchildren Kalen, Rowan, Leo and Emilie.
He was born in Kapuskasing ON, moved to Sudbury at an early age and was raised in a close-knit, fun-loving family of 6 boys and 6 girls.
Predeceased by his parents Honoré and Olive Picard, brothers Arthur, Rémi, Rolland, Jean-Paul and Lucien and sisters Beatrice Martin, Thérèse Garrow, Simone Cooper and Françoise Shayer. Survived by sisters Marcelle Gervais and Rita Labine.
Albert was a goaltender with the Sudbury Wolves, played in the American Hockey League from 1943 to 1946 for the Buffalo Bisons and Dallas Texans. In 1947-48 won the championship with Vancouver Canucks. He represented Canada and won Silver at the World Ice Hockey Championships in Stockholm, Sweden in 1949.
After his hockey career he founded Al Picard Cabinets Ltd in North Bay, ON.
Albert was a gifted artist specializing in watercolour and one of his paintings can be seen at the North Bay Heritage Carousel.
A very special thanks to Dr. Redhead and the staff at Waters Edge Care Community for their compassionate care of Albert.
Family receiving friends at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd, on Saturday July 20th from 10 am until 11:30 am. A celebration of his life will follow at the funeral home.
Donations to Nipissing Serenity Hospice or CNIB in memory of Al will be gratefully acknowledged by his family.

Il était le tendre époux pendant 67 ans de Madeline (née Rivet). Outre son épouse il laisse également dans le deuil ses enfants: Michelle Amyotte (Claude Champagne), Marc Picard (Pat Guenette) et Marie Curry (William (Bill) -prédécédé): ses petits-enfants adorés Chantal, Daniel, Timothy, Matthieu, André, Martin, Nicole et Pierre; ses arrière-petits-enfants: Kalen, Rowan, Leo et Émilie. Il laisse également ses sœurs Marcelle Gervais et Rita Labine. Il fut prédécédé par ses parents Honoré and Olive Picard ainsi que ses frères et sœurs : Arthur, Rémi, Rolland, Jean-Paul, Lucien, Beatrice Martin, Thérèse Garrow, Simone Cooper et Françoise Shayer.
Natif de Kapuskasing, Albert est déménagé à Sudbury en enfance ou il a grandi avec ses six frères et six sœurs.
Albert a connu beaucoup de succès au hockey. Sa carrière comme gardien du but a débuté avec les Wolves de Sudbury. De 1943 à 1946 il a compétitionné dans la Ligue américaine de hockey avec les Bisons de Buffalo et les Texans de Dallas. Dans la saison 1947-48 il était membre de l’équipe championne des Canucks de Vancouver. En 1949 il a représenté le Canada au Championnat du monde de hockey sur glace à Stockholm ou ils ont remporté une médaille d’argent.
Albert était un artiste doué. Un de ses tableaux en aquarelle est en affichage au North Bay Heritage Carousel.
Suite à sa carrière de hockey Albert a fondé Al Picard Cabinet Ltd à North Bay, ON.
La famille accueillera parents et amis le samedi 20 juillet 2019, à l’ÉTABLISSEMENT FUNÉRAIRE HILLSIDE de 10 h 00 à 11 h 30. Une célébration de vie suivra à 11 h 30.
